# Connect WhatsApp

> Connect WhatsApp by scanning a QR code, to send messages to prospects and to chat with Guhan from your phone.

**Connect WhatsApp by scanning a QR code, the same way you link WhatsApp Web. Use it to send to prospects, to talk to Guhan from your phone, or both.**

## What you need

* A phone with WhatsApp installed (personal or Business).
* A minute to scan a QR code.

WhatsApp is treated as a personal channel. Use it for people who have already replied or agreed to hear from you, not for cold outreach.

## Steps

**1. Open Sender accounts**

Settings, Sender accounts, then **Add sender**. You can also connect from your profile under Sender accounts.

**2. Pick WhatsApp**

The dialog shows how many senders you have used out of your limit. Click **Continue authentication**.

Add sender with WhatsApp selected. Click Continue authentication

**3. Scan the QR code**

On your phone, open WhatsApp, go to Settings, Linked Devices, Link a Device, and scan the code on screen. Codes expire quickly. If yours does, generate a new one.

**4. Confirm it is active**

After a short check, the sender appears in the list. A healthy sender shows no warning badge.

## Sending to prospects

Add a WhatsApp step to a campaign and choose this sender. The prospect needs a phone number on their record. If a prospect has no phone number, the step cannot send. You can reveal phone numbers from the prospect list. See [Enrichment](https://docs.outzen.ai/audience/enrichment.md).

Every WhatsApp message goes out from your own number as a one-to-one chat. Replies come back to your Inbox.

WhatsApp has the lowest daily limit of any channel. See [Sending safety](https://docs.outzen.ai/campaigns/sending-safety.md).

> [!WARNING]
>
> Sending a lot of unsolicited WhatsApp messages can get your number restricted by WhatsApp. Stay near the defaults.

## Ask Guhan on WhatsApp

Open the account's settings and turn on **Conversation agent on WhatsApp**. Then message your own number from your phone. Guhan answers in that chat, with the same abilities as the in-app chat. See [Ask Guhan](https://docs.outzen.ai/ask-guhan.md).

Only messages you send to yourself are picked up. Messages to prospects or contacts are never intercepted.

## Disconnecting and reconnecting

Use the account's menu, **Disconnect**, or unlink Guhan from your phone under WhatsApp, Settings, Linked Devices. If WhatsApp ends the linked session, the sender shows a status that needs attention and Guhan cannot send until you reconnect and scan a fresh QR code. See [Sender accounts](https://docs.outzen.ai/get-started/sender-accounts/overview.md#sender-status).

## If something's off

> [accordion] The QR code expired
>
> Generate a new code and scan it again.

> [accordion] A step did not send
>
> The prospect may have no phone number, or the sender may need reconnecting. Check the prospect record and the sender's status.

> [accordion] Ask Guhan does not reply on WhatsApp
>
> Check that the toggle is on for that account, and that you are messaging your own number rather than another chat.
